What do you need to make this 10-minute vegan brown gravy?
Cornstarch and plant-based milk - the cornstarch will be the thickener of this gravy and to dissolve it, I have used plant-based milk to make this gravy extra creamier.
Vegetable broth - I have used a herb vegan stock powder which has a strong thyme flavor. Depending on the stock you use, you might want to adjust the herbs' amount.
Aromatics - mustard, onion powder, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, and garlic powder make this recipe so flavorful and if you want it a bit spicier, feel free to add some cayenne pepper.
How do you make gravy from scratch?
This couldn't be simpler! All you need is bowl, a saucepan and a whisk.
- Dissolve the cornstarch with the plant-based milk, in a bowl.
- Add all the ingredients to a saucepan, over medium heat, cover, and bring to a boil. When boiling, uncover and whisk until the sauce thickens on medium-high heat and serve!
This keeps up really well in the fridge up to 3 to 4 days.
You can also freeze some if you like, let it cool completely before freezing, and then freeze in an airtight container. Let it defrost overnight in the fridge when you’re ready for it and then reheat as usual.
