HOW TO CARAMELIZE ONIONS WITHOUT OIL!
This really couldn't be simpler.
Start by turning on your stove to preheat the nonstick frying pan.
Add, the chopped onions and a pinch of salt to the preheated nonstick frying pan.
Cook, in medium heat, for 10 to 15 minutes.
Every time it starts to stick to the pan, add some water. It will create a lot of steam but it will help deglaze everything and remove all the caramelized bits that were stuck to the pan.
After 10 to 15 minutes, you will end up with this.
What is the secret to caramelizing onions without oil?
Make sure to leave your stove on medium heat and stir every couple of minutes.
As mentioned above, if it starts getting stuck to the bottom of the frying pan, just add some water and all will be well and even more flavourful because those bits will be even more caramelized!
You can store it in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days.
I was actually surprised that this freezes so well! It isnt as good as the freshly made one but if you want, just freeze some to see how you like it. It really does work!
